The name Velettà came to me on a whim. I thought the word looked beautiful and felt joyous. It wasn’t until later I discovered it meant ‘veil’ in Italian. It is another serendipitous part of the journey, and the Velettà story, that I’m really proud of.”
Our Story
Sarah Bacon-Velettà’s Founder-lives in Wellington, New Zealand with her husband and three children
“In a previous life, I was a corporate lawyer. I enjoyed the job, and I worked hard for it. But it could be relentless. On tough days, I would quietly escape to a local department store to indulge in my version of self-care – trying on products at the beauty counters. The ritual of applying a gorgeous lotion was my way of acknowledging my hard work and giving myself a little treat in an often frantic life.“
When I decided I was ready for a change, it was the return to those experiences that fired me up. I wanted to create something that others could experience in a similar way. It wasn’t just about the products, but about the ritual, the acknowledgement of self and recognising that we sometimes need to be reminded to look after number one.
I knew what I wanted a product range to contain. Natural, ethical and quality first of all. Ingredients that all had a purpose, and that would be good for any kind of skin, for any kind of woman. I wanted to focus on quality rather than fashion. And healthy, natural skin, not unachievable beauty industry standards.
As you age, your skin changes, and so should your skincare. I made the range for women like me, those who have skin that has lived. It is designed to celebrate women who have for too long been unseen in the world of beauty and personal care. An ethical, self-aware skincare collection that allowed others in a similar space to honour themselves holistically.
In other words, moving away from the stereotypical skincare ranges for mature skin, and celebrating women who feel unseen in the world of beauty and personal care. An ethical, self-aware skincare collection that allowed others in a similar space to honour themselves holistically.
