A lot of the time, when it comes to our skin, we see what others don't.
While others may not notice your pores, you may feel self-conscious about them. Everyone is different, which means that not everyone will feel like their pores stand out. Some are even more prone to trapping dirt than others. At the end of the day, it’s just the luck of the draw.
Let’s take a look at everything you need to know about pores, and how you can make them look smaller.
What are Pores?
So, what exactly are pores, then? Pores are those small openings on the surface of your skin. They are typically more visible around the nose and T-zone area, and they aren’t a one size fits all.
In fact, some people have large pores, while others can’t even see them. The primary purpose of pores is to release sweat, oils, and any impurities that are trapped in the skin onto the surface, where things like this can be easily wiped away.
Pores are also connected to hair follicles, too, and can get in the way of hair growth. This is when you might experience ingrown hair.
What Makes Mores Stand Out?
There are a number of reasons why your pores may stand out slightly more than others. One of the first and most obvious reasons is that it could be because of acne. If you've had issues with your skin in the past, or it produces too much oil, this could be why your pores are enlarged.
Another reason why your pores may stand out is that your body is producing too much sebum. This is also the main cause of oily skin, so the two go hand in hand.
If you have spent a lot of time in the sun, then your skin may have some sun damage. This can enlarge your pores and make them stand out.
Lastly, if you use noncomedogenic makeup, this could be the cause for your larger pores. Noncomedogenic makeup is makeup that has been designed not to block pores, allowing them to carry on as normal. While, of course, this is a good thing, it can result in larger pores.
How to Make Your Pores Smaller
We’ve talked about what makes those pores stand out and what they’re good for. Now, let’s run through a few helpful tips on making them appear smaller:
- Consider Switching up Your Skincare: if you’ve been using the same beauty products for the past few years and haven’t considered changing them up, this could be a contributing factor to your enlarged pores. This is going to be especially relevant if you use products designed to get rid of acne.
Products that include ingredients designed to dry your face out to clear blemishes could be causing your pores to produce too much oil, making them appear larger. Veletta’s Facial Cleansing Oil can not only help keep your skin clear from impurities and spots, but it nourishes and hydrates at the same time, preserving any moisture that your skin is producing naturally.
- Exfoliate: if you’re not someone who regularly exfoliates, you may want to consider implementing this into your weekly skincare routine, at least twice a week. Exfoliating your skin can help get rid of dead skin cells that can block your pores. However, it won’t strip too many skin cells away, keeping your pores nice and small.
- Moisturise: if you experience oily skin regularly, you may be tempted to skip the moisturising step in your daily skincare regime. However, moisturizing your face isn’t just going to keep your skin hydrated and nourished, but it’s also going to balance the production of oil, keeping those larger pores at bay. Try Veletta’s Facial Moisturiser for a well-balanced, effective daily beauty routine. Alternatively, try Velettà's Rejuvenating Oil as it will help normalise your skin's sebum production and give your skin an amazing, healthy glow.
