Spotlight on Ingredients: French Pink Clay

Posted by Phil Houghton on

At some point, most of us have wanted to scrap whatever we were doing with our skin, and give it a nice, fresh start. There's nothing quite like finding skincare that can help with this, and there's also nothing quite like the feeling of French pink clay on your face. We're committed fans of the stuff, but you may not know too much about it. Clay is such a special ingredient to learn about and understand how it works with the rest of our ingredients to bring you luxurious skincare that you won't be able to find anywhere else.

The best part is that when you use French pink clay on your skin, it can help clear up acne and blackheads, and restore the overall balance of your skin. Let’s talk a little bit more about this ingredient that we use in our products, and why we’re so glad it’s there.

What is French Pink Clay?

So, what is French pink clay, and what separates it from other clays out there that are often used in skin care products in the beauty industry? Well, you might have actually noticed that pink clay has become somewhat of a fad in the cosmetic industry, as big-box stores feature it as a favored ingredient that helps them sell their products.

Interestingly, though, with most big companies that sell a huge quantity of products, their pink clay isn't authentically pink. This is because most pink clays are produced by mixing red and white clays together to create the overall look of being pink. Then, it is sold or marketed as French pink clay. White and red clays are usually kaolin clay, whereas authentic French pink clay, like the stuff you'll find in our products, is made from bentonite clay. This means that the clay is pink from the very beginning when it is harvested and doesn't need to be mixed with anything to obtain that beautiful, soft hue.

What’s the Big Deal?

So, why does everyone want their clay to be pink, then? Well, the truth is that French pink clay, when you get the real deal, is actually the rarest clay available. This is why many companies out there who try to cut costs wherever possible mix white and red clay to produce the same appearance. You won’t get the same skin benefits, though.

French pink clay is made from a volcanic ash compound that can be sourced from an inactive Volcano in France. This particular type of clay contains the highest amount of boron, as well as minerals, including sodium, copper, iron, potassium, silica, magnesium, and calcium. It is excellent not only for making your skin feel deliciously fresh through top-notch exfoliation, but it also works hard to draw blemishes and blackheads to the surface of the skin, eradicating them in the process. It attracts any bacteria and toxins sitting in your skin as well and dispels them. The end result? Unbelievably smooth, fresh, clean, clear skin.

The biggest takeaway here is that French pink clay is used in our skincare products to absorb. It absorbs excess oil that can sit in your skin and cause impurities, but it’s mild enough so that even the most sensitive of skin can benefit from it.

Clay has been used for centuries as a topical medicinal treatment for many different maladies. This is why we hold it in such high regard, and in the course of creating our high-quality skin care products, we only want the best for our clients. This is why we only use the purest form of pink clay, so that not only do you get to enjoy that feminine hue on your face, but you also get authentic benefits from it.
